Volvo TRM SPA (Gen2) & SPA2 – New Solution Development
Control module for the rear lighting group and an automated folding (retractable) tow bar for Volvo vehicles on the SPA and SPA2 platforms. The first project for Continental Automotive Serbia with full responsibility — project management, system design, SW, HW and system testing — from the quotation phase to series production. A book could be written about it, but in short: while we were creating the product, it was creating us. More about the project

Volvo TRM SPA (Gen1) – Maintenance and Phase-out
Control module for the rear lighting group and a semi-automated folding (retractable) tow bar for Volvo vehicles on the SPA platform. One of the projects transferred to Continental Automotive Serbia when the team that had been working on it at Continental Iași (Romania) moved into the Osram-Continental joint venture. A typical automotive project in the maintenance phase: resolving problems found by end users in the field, i.e. on the road, and handling electronic component supply disruptions through HW and SW revisions. More about the project

Porsche BCM — Maintenance and Life Extension
Control module for the front and rear lighting groups, wipers, retractable spoiler, washer nozzles, and more. A typical automotive “Body Control Module”. I took over the project at the moment when, instead of finishing series production and moving into spare-parts production, the customer, Porsche, asked for series production to be extended for another 5 years. More than 30 essential components would no longer be available from the following year, and for a good part of them there was no replacement. The required quantities were small and a redesign far too expensive. The solution called for creativity. More about the project

BSI Parkomat — Concept and Final Solution Development
A parking payment machine offering the widest range of ways for the user to pay for parking, developed for and in cooperation with BSI Inženjering. The machine is manufactured entirely by local companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the projects I did outside the corporate world, as an independent engagement leading the product development and production of two generations of this machine. More about the project

Kuc-kuc — NB-IoT Smart Lock
A smart NB-IoT lock designed to automate the process of renting out houses, apartments and hotel rooms. An idea around which I gathered a team and started building a startup. From defining the product through mapping customer needs and the business model, to developing the mechatronic assembly, the software on the lock, on mobile phones and on servers, all the way to production. A very good school and my most complete project, from the idea to the shutdown of operations caused by supply-chain problems during the Covid pandemic. More about the project

Skiosk.Smart
A premium automated payment device. You see these machines in airports and shopping malls around the world. Unfortunately, I did not work on this project from the beginning, only on preparing it for series production — detailing and documentation. We got the project when the company that had originally developed it for Skidata could not achieve the required production quality. More about the project

Lighting System with Accessories
A premium lighting system with an ambitious goal set by the customer: to significantly outperform every solution available on the market in every segment. One of the projects where we worked closely with designers, lighting architects and the customer. The closest thing to art I have done in my portfolio. More about the project

Gambling Equipment Revision
A machine for sorting and dispensing casino chips, a card shuffler, and a card dealing device. Anything but simple or naive machines — precise, complex, fast mechatronic systems, on which we unfortunately only did revisions and minor improvements. More about the project

Sporfie
An installable Sporfie pole, a mount for recording equipment. A startup idea that solves the problem of kids’ games where parents reach for their phones too late and miss the moment when the pride of the family scores a goal, a basket or a hit. Software was the foundation; we were asked to build a collapsible, easily transportable 5-meter pole whose mount lifts the phone to height and films the game. More about the project

6D Joystick for a Car-Door-Handling Robot
A solid 6D joystick based on aluminum strain and strain gauges, developed for a joystick integrator on commission from a robot manufacturer, for a premium automotive brand. An engineering research project: modeling, simulation, prototyping (building the prototype), testing, and then all over again. More about the project

Group of Injection Molding Tools
Four tools, ranging from the simplest, with a plain opening, to ones with multiple side slides and optical-quality requirements. In ABS, rubber, PC and PVC. It all started from curiosity — would we know how to design and manufacture a tool, and then the plastic parts — and from a chance meeting with Čika Gruja (Uncle Gruja) and his words: “I’ll show you everything I know.” We started with an aluminum part that cost 4.50 EUR and replaced it with a plastic one that cost 0.35 EUR. More about the projects

Large-Scale LED Lighting System for the Mekkah Haram 3rd Expansion
A group of lighting modules and control (installation) cabinets. Kilometers of lighting modules, an army of cabinets. Developing the solution was a small challenge compared to drawing up and planning kilometers of installations. A brush with the construction industry and a huge project. Although the volume of engineering work itself was not huge, the quantities and logistics made for an impressive job. More about the project

KeWin Multimedia
Housing for the new generation of a gaming device — a lottery ticket reader and printer. You have seen such devices at newsstands. The device already existed; we optimized its housing. A small project, and one of the few that nevertheless did not make it into production. Nothing more to say.

Photo-Bioreactor
Precise movement, following the sun, to optimize the illumination of walls made of 6-meter-tall glass tubes in which algae grow. Another dimension on top of precision mechanics. A bit of learning about algae production. Although I was very curious how the testing would go, the project was discontinued in the development phase due to financial difficulties.

Lite.Gate — Parking Column
A new generation of entry barrier for parking areas. The younger brother of the Power.Gate, a more affordable variant with a reduced set of functions. From the idea and design solution all the way to series production. Because of its size and the goal of being simpler and more affordable, the concept and design are significantly different, even though it looks like its older brother. A few innovative improvements. More about the project

Power.Gate — Parking Column
A new generation of entry barrier for parking areas, premium version. This project practically got me hired at Digital Elektronik. Unrealistic deadlines and an even more unrealistic budget opened the door to setting up a development department in Derventa, BiH. Hiring the first engineers, building the team, and a first version of the production documentation for a prototype in 3 weeks. Quite enough for the start of a fantastic collaboration that lasted more than 6 years. More about the project

ERWE Exit Controller
A new generation of exit control device. You have seen these devices at fire exits in shopping centers and other public buildings. We improved the existing version by adding an acceleration sensor, so that resourceful thieves slipping out through the back exit without visiting the checkout would get an audible send-off and the attention they deserve. We also added some functions for communicating with a control center. More about the project

Skimovie — Motion Sound Generator and Video Surveillance Software
A program that generates sound from skiers’ motion vectors, and software for video monitoring of slopes equipped with the Skimovie system. The first software-only project at NetQm, for which we hired new colleagues straight out of university. After presenting the project task, I begged them to stay and assured them they could do it. A few months later we had the first version, along with a migration from AWS in the USA to the EU. A nice lesson in new technologies, team development, collaboration and management. More about the project

Skiline Terminal
A machine for displaying and printing skiing statistics based on a scanned ski pass. The first machine-development project for NetQm, which we got because no company in Austria wanted or was able to deliver them a prototype in under 2 months. A stand-alone and wall-mounted device for indoor and outdoor use at extremely low temperatures. Loooots of learning. My first machine and the first product of mine to enter series production, back in 2010. More about the project

Skidata Easy.Gate — Testing Equipment
End-of-line testing equipment. A single tester for complete mechatronic testing of the final product, which in this case was the mechatronic module of the Easy.Gate ski-lift gate. This was the first development project NetQm received from Skidata after many years of providing Skidata SW testing services. There is an interesting story behind how we got it. More about the project

Leading the Skidata SW Quality Assurance Team
Establishing the processes and structure of, and leading, an outsourced software quality assurance department. The story of how I got my first job — or rather, how I accepted a job I didn’t want, in a field that didn’t attract me, at a company that had refused to give me a scholarship — and how a nice collaboration, a friendship and a lot of learning grew out of it.
